Guest Post: Beauty Myths

Hey guys!
Today Penny and Clio have let me write a post for their brilliant blog. Today I will be posting about beauty myths Here are five widely believed statements that are actually complete myths!

Wearing nail polish will make your nails yellow:
This is slightly true, however not for everyone. Darker colours like reds and dark pinks can stain your nails, along with cheaper brands of nail polish. Althought this is not always the case as Barry M's range of nail polish range from £2.99 to £4.99 and do not stain at all.

Brushing your hair 100 strokes a day makes it shine:
This is most definitely not true. In fact, brushing your hair too much can damage your hair as you are tugging at it. How could that possibly make your hair shine?

Curling your eyelashes with mascara on breaks them:
This is also not true, although personally I avoid it. I always curl my lashes before applying mascara. If you curl them straight after applying the mascara the chances are that the mascara will still be wet and it will stick to the curlers, leaving them dirty and can make your lashes stick to the curlers.

You know your skin is clean when you wash it, it squeaks:
Definitely not true. If your skin is squeaking then it is probably because you're using the wrong products. Or that you have your skin type wrong. Many people including me, just guess their skin type and buy products purely for that skin type. If your skin is squeaky just use a basic face wash and leave everything else so that your skin stops squeaking!

Wearing lipstick dries out your lips:
This is false. If you just wear lipstick then yes it probaly will but it's really important that you keep your lips moisturised! I use a Nivea lip balm or Vaseline. Just apply before bed and then in the morning they're smooth for the application of lipstick.

I hope your have enjoyed reading this short guest post.

Product Spotlight: Rimmel Lipsticks

Hey Guys!

Lips can make or break a look. So it's vital to choose the perfect shade! Recently, we went to the drugstore to have a look at some new lipsticks and make a few purchases to add to our collection. We decided that we would try out the Rimmel lipsticks because we had heard loads of good things about them and we thought that the colours looked divine. After much testing and a lot of indecisiveness we managed to choose three lipsticks, each from a different range. (I apologise for my chapped lips! - Clio)

Firstly we have the 'Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss' which is in the red container and is in the shade 'Wine'/Number '107'. This has got to be our favourite out of the three - it is a beautiful rich wine colour with hints of plum. This is a shade that we would definitely recommend buying - it just gives your lips a really nice velvety texture. Unfortunately, this isn't the best to wear with chapped lips is prone to being absorbed into dry patches, leaving you with a patchy finish after a few hours. This wouldn't be an issue for those of you with well-moisturised lips but if you have got chapped lips, we would recommend trying the moisture renew collection.

The next colour we picked was from the 'Moisture Renew' collection in the colour 'Funtime Fuschia' (number 320). Although this colour looks very bold we think that it really adds a pop of colour to any outfit or make up look! We really liked the fact that it doesn't make the lips feel quite as dry as the other two lipsticks and is a lot better for wear during winter months when many people have chapped lips.

Lastly we have a lipstick from the 'Kate Spring Lipstick Collection' in the shade number '22'. This is a really striking red colour with a pink undertone, perfect for parties and special occasions or even when you are just feeling like a spot of colour to liven up your outfit for the day! We really liked this but we encountered the same problem as with the colour '107' - it dries out chapped lips! However you shouldn't be put off by this, it is still an absolutely gorgeous colour!

You can purchase all of these lipsticks from most major drugstores such as Boots and Superdrug and they are all under £6.50. As you can see from the swatches of the product, they are all very pigmented and vibrant. However for the full effect of the colour you must put on around two coats.
