Saturday Stuff: DIY Three Ingredient Exfoliating Facemask

Hey Guys!

For us, a great way to spend a Saturday evening in is doing a face-mask. As teenagers, we have fairly temperamental skin, and although neither of us suffers terribly with acne or other skin problems we are prone to the occasional breakout. Typically we would bombard our face with products full of harsh products, but when we came across a youtube video the other day by 'Rachh Loves' about a three ingredient face-mask we thought it would be good to try something a little more natural and less harsh to improve our skin.

The recipe for the face-mask includes three ingredients which we can almost guarantee you will find in your kitchen- Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Bicarbonate of Soda (Baking Soda if you're American) and honey- watch the video to see the 'science' behind each of these ingredients.

3-Ingredient Face mask (makes 1 batch)

1 tsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1/2 tsp. Honey
1 1/2 tsps. Bicarbonate of Soda

Method:

1) Add all ingredients into a small bowl

2) Mix together

3)Add more olive oil/honey/bicarbonate of Soda if desired 'paste' texture is not achieved

4) You simply smooth this scrub/mask onto your face after cleansing and leave for about 10 minutes before washing off and following with your usual products if desired. We found that this scrub helped to reduce any redness and inflammation on the face as well as gently exfoliating off any dry patches- it didn't break us out but if you are concerned about this it may be worth doing a small patch test to check it doesn't irritate your skin.

(Sorry that the mask is not the most attractive-but it does its job!)

Happy Facemask-ing!

Product Spotlight: Rimmel Lipsticks

Hey Guys!

Lips can make or break a look. So it's vital to choose the perfect shade! Recently, we went to the drugstore to have a look at some new lipsticks and make a few purchases to add to our collection. We decided that we would try out the Rimmel lipsticks because we had heard loads of good things about them and we thought that the colours looked divine. After much testing and a lot of indecisiveness we managed to choose three lipsticks, each from a different range. (I apologise for my chapped lips! - Clio)

Firstly we have the 'Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss' which is in the red container and is in the shade 'Wine'/Number '107'. This has got to be our favourite out of the three - it is a beautiful rich wine colour with hints of plum. This is a shade that we would definitely recommend buying - it just gives your lips a really nice velvety texture. Unfortunately, this isn't the best to wear with chapped lips is prone to being absorbed into dry patches, leaving you with a patchy finish after a few hours. This wouldn't be an issue for those of you with well-moisturised lips but if you have got chapped lips, we would recommend trying the moisture renew collection.

The next colour we picked was from the 'Moisture Renew' collection in the colour 'Funtime Fuschia' (number 320). Although this colour looks very bold we think that it really adds a pop of colour to any outfit or make up look! We really liked the fact that it doesn't make the lips feel quite as dry as the other two lipsticks and is a lot better for wear during winter months when many people have chapped lips.

Lastly we have a lipstick from the 'Kate Spring Lipstick Collection' in the shade number '22'. This is a really striking red colour with a pink undertone, perfect for parties and special occasions or even when you are just feeling like a spot of colour to liven up your outfit for the day! We really liked this but we encountered the same problem as with the colour '107' - it dries out chapped lips! However you shouldn't be put off by this, it is still an absolutely gorgeous colour!

You can purchase all of these lipsticks from most major drugstores such as Boots and Superdrug and they are all under £6.50. As you can see from the swatches of the product, they are all very pigmented and vibrant. However for the full effect of the colour you must put on around two coats.

It makes us App-y: Snapchat

Hey Guys!

Whilst this post is not necessarily beauty related, technology is a big part of our lives so we thought we'd regularly feature a post about an App that we are loving at the moment.

Both of us are obsessed with the photo sharing app 'Snapchat' right now- it allows you to share what you're doing with friends by sending them a picture that they can only see for 1-10 seconds. Although, let's be honest, it's perfect for sending your friends 'selfies' of you pulling the most ridiculous face possible! Generally, it's a really fun new way to communicate with your friends and (as long as you don't abuse the usage of it) it's just an innocent way of having a laugh.

Product Spotlight: Benefit's 'The POREfessional'

Hey Guys!

Primer's are a product that not everyone uses everyday, but we swear by them for making our base last hours and smoothing the appearance of our skin. Benefit claims the product will: "Quickly minimise the appearance of pores & fine lines for smoother-than-smooth skin!" and we agree! If it's applied correctly it really does what it says on the tin!

The product's packaging is in Benefit's typical cute, retro style and is extremely visually appealing. It is dispensed from a convenient tube which will give just the right amount of product for one application, however, once you reach the end of the tube it may be hard to get the leftover product out (something quite important for a product as pricey as this!).

As you can see from the photo the product is a peach tone and has a fairly thick consistency. It is not for you if you prefer a water based primer over a silcone based one, however we quite like the 'velvety' texture this gives the skin as we think helps with perfecting the finish of the skin.

You can purchase this product from Benefit stores all over the UK as well as most major department stores and some Boots stores for an RRP of £24.50.

Product Spotlight: Urban Decay Naked Palette

 Hey Guys!

The Urban Decay Naked Palette is somewhat of a cult beauty product in the blogging world at the moment, so when we got our hands on one, we thought we should add in our two cents about what we think (just in case there weren't already enough reviews!).

The inside of the box includes a fairly large mirror and an urban decay shadow brush, perfect for on the go application. Overall the packaging looks quite appealing however there are a few downsides to the materials they have used to manufacture the box and how they have chosen to secure the lid. The outer shell of the box is made of a velvet textured material which unfortunately collects dust and dirt very easily and very quickly. Another flaw in this packaging is the magnetised closing mechanism which is far from suitable for travelling etc. because it isn't particularly well secured.

The palette contains twelve highly pigmented eye shadows, including ten shimmer shades and two matte shades (Naked & Buck) of varying neutral tones. 'Virgin' and 'Sin' are particularly good highlighting shadows whilst the darker shades such as 'Dark Horse' and 'Hustle' are good for a more dramatic smokey eye effect. Our favourite shades are 'Virgin', 'Half Baked' and 'Toasted'. However if you aren't a fan of shimmer shades this palette probably isn't for you. You might want to try the 'Urban Decay Naked Basics' eye shadow palette as an alternative. Something else worth noting when using this palette is the fact that there is a slight amount of glitter fallout after application - although it is nothing that can't be corrected with the swipe of a make up wipe!

All in all we think that this is a great product to have in your collection and is definitely a worthwhile (although slightly expensive) purchase! In the UK this product is available to buy at Debenhams and House of Fraser for the RRP of £36.
